HISTORY

Originally built by Daniel Hopkinson in 1817 as a Mustard Mill, this grade 2 listed building was the home from the 1920s onwards for The Amber Mill Furniture Manuf. Co. Ltd est. 1909. In January 1955 the mill was ravaged by fire.

Mr Reginald Turner M.D. and, son of Mr John Turner was quoted in one of the local papers as saying β€œit is a great blow to see a lifetime’s work destroyed in one night” nevertheless the company survived until the late 1980s.

Between 2017 and 2020 major renovations were undertaken to transform the Mill into the new, unique, and stimulating commercial environment it is today.

The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development recognised the potential of what the revitalised grade 2 listed Mill could offer to the surrounding area and consequently gave part funding for the restoration works together with The European Union Regional Development Fund who have contributed towards this website and the state of art communication system.

β€œ Our vision is to re-establish Amber Mill as a flexible business environment, reflecting the current commercial needs, a safe, adaptable yet inspirational space for the businesses and entrepreneurs of tomorrow.”

Ann Turner, Amber Mill Furniture Rural Enterprise Centre Proprietor
